Social Concerns Monthly Meeting

The monthly meeting of the St. Andrew the Apostle Parish Social Concerns Committee normally meets on the third Monday of each month at 7 PM in the Parish Center.  Changes to this schedule are published in the parish bulletin.  Come and join us with your concerns and ideas.

Feeding Lunch at Salvation Army

The Social Concerns Committee provides a meal each month on the fourth Wednesday of each month.  The menu and dish assignments are determined at the committee’s monthly meeting.  We could use your help in preparing and serving this meal.  Come to our monthly meeting and see how you can help.  We normally serve about 70 meals at this function.

St. Andrew the Apostle Parish

Monthly Rosary for Life

A monthly Pro-Life Rosary is prayed on the first Saturday of each month, following the 9 AM mass.  This Rosary is prayed in front of the Parish Administration Bldg. at the Memorial to the Unborn.

Healing Our Borders

Who We Are

Healing our Borders is a Douglas Arizona, Agua Prieta Sonora Based, interfaith group praying for all persons adversely affected by current immigration policies, especially families of those who have died in the desert, for improved bi-national relationships and for positive changes in the U.S. Immigration policies that will help end death in the desert.

Prayer, Pray & Praying…

Prayer is central to who we are.  We invite you to pray with us for all migrants and those suffering because their loved ones are away in foreign lands or in harms way.  You may want to take a moment where you are and pray the “our Father” (The Lord’s Prayer) out loud … When praying “Your Kingdom Come, Your Will Be Done On Earth As It Is in Heaven,” we recognize that the fear, hatred, tension, and division in our communities and the death of over 2,300 migrants in our deserts since 1995 is not God’s will.  We pray for the day when people will come from east and west, north and south to eat together at God’s banquet, the day when the wall that divides us will be turned on its side and become a table that unites us.

What Else Does HOB do?

We deliver blankets and other items to migrants and others in need, we clean our deserts and lands of the many items that are left behind as people make a desperate journey, and we try to educate ourselves about our connectedness to one another and the immigration crisis. We provide information like this notice to people like you; information to both migrants and U.S. citizens about what life is like in the U.S. for the undocumented, and we speak with elected officials about making changes in the U.S. migration and work policies; and we pray.

What are the White Crosses for?

The crosses bear witness to those that have died walking toward their dreams, the same kinds of dreams most of us have. Some of the crosses do not have names because some of those that have died were never found. The names on these crosses are of our brothers and sisters, fathers, mothers and children that died near Douglas and Agua Prieta.  HOB wants to remember and honor these migrant pilgrims, and pray for their families and friends.

What Can I Do, Does This Make a Difference

Pray and don't ignore this situation. It does not matter if you, are from Mexico or the United States when you see a migrant, smile and say hola or hi.  Accept that undocumented people, from all countries are full of fear and anxiety. Come to our Vigils on Tuesdays.  Ask about programs to aid migrants in your churches. For more information or comments call Pastor Mark (364- 9257) or Father Bob (364-1245) in Douglas and Father Cayetano  (33-8-05-30) or Pastor Chuy (33-1-09-32) in Agua Prieta

Please Come Join Us

We are on Pan American and 5th Street in Douglas every Tuesday from 5:15 to 6:15 PM and invite you to come and pray with us.
