Our Hope Fixed On The Bridegroom | St. Gregory the Great
Written by St. Gregory the Great

Dearly beloved, it is fitting that we should follow Him in our hearts to where we believe He has ascended in His body. Let us flee earthly desires. Let nothing here below delight us who have a Father in heaven.

We must consider very carefully that He who was mild at His ascent will be terrible at His return. He will demand from us with great strictness whatever He has commanded of us with gentleness. Le no one take lightly the time of repentance granted us, let no one neglect to have concern for himself while he can do so, because our Redeemer will come with great strictness in proportion to the great patience e has shown us before the judgment.

Reflect on these things, my friends, constantly turn them over in your minds. The disturbance of things may still be driving your hearts to and fro, but fix the anchor of your hope now in your eternal home.

Establish your mind's attention in the true light. We have heard that the Lord has ascended into Heaven.

Let our belief be the subject of our meditation.

If the weakness of our body still holds us here, let us follow hi by the footsteps of our love.

He who gave us our desire will not fail us, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit God for ever and ever.  Amen.

Sudan: What Would You Do?
Written by Catholic Relief Services

"Never again" begins now.

sudan_crs

Sudan is at a crossroads. After the Holocaust in Europe, the world vowed, "Never again." After the genocide in Rwanda, the world said, "Never again!" Now is the time for us to take a stand with our sisters and brothers in Sudan. The best response to the suffering and violence in Sudan is to help prevent it.

Five and a half years ago, a peace agreement ended Africa's longest-running war in Sudan. That agreement calls for a referendum in January 2011 for the people of southern Sudan to decide if they will remain united with the rest of the country or secede and declare their independence.

Did You Know ...

octoberfest_150... that we have a MAJOR FUN EVENT scheduled for next weekend??? Next Friday and Saturday, September 10-11, we will be celebrating OKTOBERFEST at our Knights of Columbus Hall - just around the corner! This two-day event will be for our whole Community, as well as our Parish Community - and on Saturday, we will have many extra events, games and prizes for families with children! There will be delicious food available from the Knights, as well as hamburgers/hotdogs for the kids. A wonderful schedule of music and entertainment is also planned, and, of course, the traditional Biergarten!

The Saturday activities will take the place of our annual Parish Picnic this year and we are looking for all of our families and the kids of our Parish to come join us for the fun. There is lots of additional parking in the parking lots of St. Andrew's and a short walk of one block down North Avenue to the Knights of Columbus Hall! We will need lots of volunteer help, as well, and if you are able to give a couple of hours of your time, please call the Parish Office (458-2925)! ALL Knights of Columbus are counted on to help - please contact the Grand Knight to sign-up for times to serve! Let's all turn out for this year's special K of C/Parish OKTOBERFEST next week - and bring friends!

This past week, we received $1.160.74 in NEW gifts and pledges to our Building Fund - to pay-off our construction loan on our new church! The Knights of Columbus donated the "Ave Maria" belltower of the new church and have pledged $800 per month to the Building Fund! That's another reason to support the activities of the Knights of Columbus!

To fail in charity is like wounding God in the apple of His eye. What is more delicate than the pupil of the eye? To fail in charity is like failing against nature.
